Neel Preet: First of all, Big Congratulations to you Geetima Ma’am on your newly published book, “SYMPHONIES: Second Edition” you’ve achieved something remarkably huge! What responses are you getting from this book of yours? Please share your experience about this book.
Geetima Devi: Thank you sir. Thank you very much. SYMPHONIES: Second Edition is in fact the outcome of the love and demand of my readers because the first edition of the same had been published as recently as in May, 2018. Readers have conveyed their love for the flow of each poem and the way it enchants and draws one to the end of the piece.
Neel Preet: I’ve read your book and I genuinely feel that it’s a wonderful collection of “Emotional and Inspirational Poems” so my next question to you is that what inspired you to write these poems? What was the impetus behind this work of yours?
Geetima Devi: What I am has a little contribution of love for imagination, inspiration from wins over struggle (as I try my best not to quit) and giving space to my thoughts. As I think of drawing my thoughts, the flights of imagination drenched with emotion, they reveal themselves in flows of words. Gradually it so happened that I harboured a love to put my feelings down rather, than to unfold to someone who I was not sure would appreciate or pay heed to me.
Neel Preet: You have given a very interesting title to your Poetry-Collection Book, which is undoubtedly very catchy too so, what made you go for this title for your book?
Geetima Devi: This collection basically threads together my writings over a period of time, depicting the observations and feeling from different points of view, from different levels of experience and maturity. As such, I decided that just like many notes combine to make the music, may be this would be the most apt title to my humble effort.
Neel Preet: While reading your Poetry-Collection book, SYMPHONIES: Second Edition, I found that your poems had some really strong emotions and stories inside them, which had greatly impressed me as a reader, so I would like you to explain us the overall theme of your book & tell us what was your mind-set while composing these poems?
Geetima Devi: The effort of the collection is to essentially capture the myriads of emotions of fleeting moments or a phase of life in some given scenarios. The bedrock of the book is the undulating feelings passing through my mind over a long period of time. The sentiment dances between the happy and gloomy, hope and some rare moments of despair. Thus, the theme of the book is to celebrate the immense capability of our heart to feel, of our mind to ponder upon the simple joys of life, the moments of life that we mostly happen to ignore in the din of life.
Neel Preet: These days we don’t see many writers coming out with ‘Poetry Collection’ but you did so, which I believe is a bold step so, my next question to you is that why did you choose Poetry to express yourself? And why not Short-Stories when that too could have served the purpose?
Geetima Devi: Sir, it is much like getting dressed differently for different occasions, I think. I write short stories also. But the drive I feel to write a short story is completely different from the one I feel and dress into a poem. I started my endeavours of writing by way of poems, around two decades back, getting published in the prominent newspapers of Assam and in the pan India level as well. As such, it came naturally to me, as also nudged by my friends and family, that I should go for publication of a collection of my poems.
Neel Preet: Ma’am your writing seemed to be really impeccable and you were bold with your poems in your book, which I really appreciate. Therefore, I want you to tell us about some of those writers, who had inspired you and whom you follow!
Geetima Devi: My inclination towards writing developed from a wide reading of a varied genre of prose, poetry, fiction and drama, across different times of history. Apart from romantic poems and movies of yesteryears, the writings of Ruskin Bond and O’ Henry appeal a lot to me.
Neel Preet: Is there any message which you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!
Geetima Devi: As our world shrinks to a global village with the ever increasing connectivity, it tends to drive us more and more towards material objectives. In order that we do not lose touch with our inner selves, it is of essence that we take time off to delve deeper into our feelings.
Neel Preet: Are there any other books being worked by you? Please let us know about your future projects.
Geetima Devi: At present, I am working upon a translation work and compiling some articles written by me published in some magazines. So, I think the very next in the line will be the translation work. If that effort sees the colours of the day, I shall plan on publishing a collection of my short stories.
Neel Preet: Thank you so much for answering all my questions. All the very best to you for future and your book too!
Geetima Devi: Thank you very much.
