Neel Preet: First of all, Big Congratulations to you Priyanandini on your debut book, “THE PHASE: A Poetry Collection” well, you’ve achieved something remarkably huge at a very young age! So, what’re your expectations from this book of yours? Please share your experience about this book.
Priyanandini Bali: It’s only my first book so i don’t have quite that many expectations from it . I would be glad if even only a handful of people actually found out about it and read and appreciated it. My experience writing the book was pretty sad as my dog died, and during the lockdown pretty much everyone felt lonely and so did i and i also wrote few poems about a particular character from some web series on Netflix.
Neel Preet: I’ve read your book and I genuinely feel that it’s a wonderful collection of “Experience Based Emotional Poems” so my next question to you is that what inspired you to write these poems? What was the impetus behind this work of yours?
Priyanandini Bali: Well when I first started writing poems, I was in 3rd grade and then I had a gap in between, but during the lockdown due to pandemic with so much free time available I started writing as it was very soothing. I was able to express my thoughts and feelings in a better way. My poems are emotional as few of them I wrote just after I lost my pet Liza.
Neel Preet: You have given an interesting title to your Poetry-Collection Book, which is undoubtedly very catchy too; so, what made you go for this particular title for your book?
Priyanandini Bali: The phase indicates a time in everyone’s life when they feel lost. When people feel a bit empty and lost, the feeling of when you lose a loved one. These poems are just expressing the feelings one would have during that phase.
Neel Preet: While reading your book, I sensed that your poems are conveying some message and if so, then could you please discuss that with your readers.
Priyanandini Bali: Actually I never had any thought about conveying any message however writing, compiling, selection of title and then publishing was a learning for me. Message which can be derived is that one can use free time for something constructive and most importantly you can vent out your emotions.
Neel Preet: These days a lot of writers are coming out with their books but only a few of them come out with ‘Poetry’ which I believe is a bold step so, my next question to you is that why did you choose Poetry to express yourself? And why not Short-Stories when that too could have served the purpose?
Priyanandini Bali: Poetry does not appeal to most of the people as they are deep in meaning, they are short crisp maybe very emotive but that’s what i love about it. All poems can be interpreted in different ways. I could have also gone with short stories but poems and short stories are a lot different from each other and what i have written came to me naturally .I am only a teenager may be in future i may write short stories too.
Neel Preet: Your poems had some really strong emotions and stories inside them, which had greatly impressed me and thus I would like you to explain the overall theme of your book!
Priyanandini Bali: The theme is basically my experiences with people, animals, loss of a lovable pet, argument with friend etc.
Neel Preet: Your writing seemed to be really impeccable and you were bold with your poems in your book, which I really appreciate. Therefore, I want you to tell us about some of those writers, who had inspired you and whom you follow!
Priyanandini Bali: Well, as much as i like poetry myself I don’t really know all that many poets. One poet that did in fact inspire me was Rupi Kaur.
Neel Preet: Is there any message which you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!
Priyanandini Bali: The advice I would like to give is, everyone should have their own way of expressing themselves. Every once in while, escape from reality and take a break for some time for yourself. Work on something you love to do rather than worrying about other things.
Neel Preet: Are there any other books being worked by you? Please let us know about your future projects.
Priyanandini Bali: Yes I am working on one more anthology. It might take some while but I’ll try to publish it as soon as I can.
Neel Preet: Thank you so much for answering all my questions. All the very best to you for future and your book too!
Priyanandini Bali: Thank you!
