Neel Preet: First of all, Big Congratulations to you Sulakshana Ma’am on your debut book, “The Unsung Verses: A Poetry Collection” well, you’ve achieved something remarkably huge! So, what’re your expectations from this book of yours? Please share your experience about this book.
Sulakshana Misra: Thank you so much Neel. This is not just a book for me, it is my dream come true. As you are aware, this is my debut book. My expectations from this book is to just give my readers a wonderful reading experience. I wish the readers relish the emotions potrayed in my poems. They should enjoy reading poetry. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey of this book. I have literally lived this book.
Neel Preet: I’ve read your book and I genuinely feel that it’s a wonderful collection of “Experience Based Emotional Poems” so my next question to you is that what inspired you to write these poems? What was the impetus behind this work of yours?
Sulakshana Misra: I am passionate about writing. Poetry is very close to my heart. I derive my inspiration from daily life. Any incident may be my inspiration. I am a firm believer in human values, relationships. I strongly believe in the magic of love. Through my poems, I have tried to introspect my own emotional strength.
This book is dedicated to my son. I want him to grow up and appreciate human values. I wish to leave a positive impression on anyone who reads my poems.
Neel Preet: You have given an interesting title to your Poetry-Collection Book, which is undoubtedly very catchy too; so, what made you go for this particular title for your book?
Sulakshana Misra: The verses or poems in this book are as fresh as morning dew. These poems were never read or sung by anyone, so I wanted to give my readers , something which is extremely fresh, new and exclusively for my readers only. That is why this book is called…The Unsung Verses. I really hope that my readers also feel the same for this book. I wish my readers to identify with the different emotions potrayed in my poems.
Neel Preet: While reading your book, I sensed that your poems are conveying some message and if so, then could you please discuss that with your readers.
Sulakshana Misra: The only message which I tried to convey is positivity. The readers will notice that the dominating emotion in my poems is “love” in different relationships, in different scenario and different angles. I believe, love is such a positive emotion that it should be given its due place in our lives. There are quite a few poems where I have tried to explore the wide arena of mother-son bond. I request my readers to understand that despite different names given to different relationships, the guiding emotion is always love. This world is beautiful, lets all come together to spread love and eradicate the vice of hatred. Let us all make this world a happy place for everyone.
Neel Preet: These days a lot of writers are coming out with their books but only a few of them come out with ‘Poetry’ which I believe is a bold step so, my next question to you is that why did you choose Poetry to express yourself? And why not Short-Stories when that too could have served the purpose?
Sulakshana Misra: Poetic expression is truly spiritual for me. I connect to God through poetry. Poetry is so soothing to mind and acts as a rejuvenating agent for the soul. Poems are like magical moments, when poetry touches the soul, magic is created. Poetry is extremely close to my heart. I want to revive poetry so that it reaches to the masses. I do write stories and my readers will soon get to read stories written by me.
Neel Preet: Your poems had some really strong emotions and stories inside them, which had greatly impressed me and thus I would like you to explain the overall theme of your book!
Sulakshana Misra: Overall theme is human emotions in varied forms. Be it love between a man and a woman or between the mother and the son. The basic idea is to bring a smile to my readers. In the present scenario of unfortunate pandemic, I want my poems to spread positivity and happiness. We are all fortunate to be born as a human being, we must understand the sole purpose of our existence. We must strive to spread happiness and smile on this beautiful planet.
Neel Preet: Your writing seemed to be really impeccable and you were bold with your poems in your book, which I really appreciate. Therefore, I want you to tell us about some of those writers, who had inspired you and whom you follow!
Sulakshana Misra: I have been a voracious readers ever since I could remember. I have read a lot of writers, but among all there are a few who are extremely close to my heart. I don’t follow any writer’s writing style , but I have a secret desire to write good quality stuff which may leave a long lasting positive impact on my readers. I enjoy reading Charles Dickens, George Orwell, Franz Kafka, Salman Rushdie, Vikram Seth, Vikram Chandra, Jeffery Archer. To be very honest, the list is almost never ending !
Neel Preet: Is there any message which you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!
Sulakshana Misra: By profession, I am a Banker. I have learnt that the well planned investments yield good results. So I request my readers to invest time in good books , so that they get blessed with positivity in life. Books will always remain the most loyal friends for anyone. We must train our kids to nurture the love for books. I get saddened by the ever increasing craze for mobile among kids. Let us all re-introduce ourselves and our kids to the wonderful world of books and literature.
Neel Preet: Are there any other books being worked by you? Please let us know about your future projects.
